We could all learn a lesson or two about positivity from the front woman of former Nashville band Those Darlins. Back in October, a week after their final tour ended, Jessi Zazu was diagnosed with stage 2 cervical cancer. She made the decision to put both musical and art projects on hold in hope she could beat the cancer and move on from the temporary road block.
Unfortunately for Zazu a few months later in November she was told that the cancer had metastasized and spread through her lymphatic system, making it incurable. Despite the sad news, Zazu remains incredibly optimistic. She says “I feel healthy, happy, hopeful, determined, positive, and full of sparks and nails. In a sense: there’s a tumor growing on my body, I don’t know what lays in store, but I ain’t afraid anymore.”
Over the next few months, Zazu hopes to continue recording with Linwood, has plans for a visual art show raising awareness of her experiences and has even designed a t shirt you can buy with her newfound slogan ‘Ain’t Afraid’. She has also launched a fundraising page to help cover the costs of bills and and living expenses which you can donate to here.
Zazu has released a video where she shares her experiences and new projects and undergoes a dramatic transformation all the whilst remaining light hearted and full of optimism.
