Thief Issue 1: International

written by Rosemary Long July 31, 2015

Welcome to the first issue of Thief, tribe’s new creative writing micro-publication. With tribe being an international publication, celebrating the creativity all over the world, it felt right that the first issue of Thief should be an international affair too.

We put a call out for your stories and poems that would transport us to both familiar and unfamiliar lands. We wanted creative writing that gave a new insight in to another country, as well as our own. We wanted to learn new languages, taste new foods, meet new people and learn new cultures. From the countless submissions we received, we picked our favourites– the ones that made us want to reread them and revisit that piece’s location, whether that’s because you made us fall in love with it, or because it was so crazy we felt the urge to take a closer look.

So, starting in the West, and ending in the East, this issue takes us on an around-the-world trip, via a concoction of love, lust, loss, joy, hope, fear and anguish. From bottle fights to angelic apparitions, from elegant eels to stone gods, from sparse country roads to bustling city pavements, each story and poem invites you to experience its own world, and has been complimented with a bespoke illustration from one of our brilliant illustrators, adding to the dynamics of our journey. So, with that said: buckle up, sit back, and enjoy the ride.
